The Discipline of Daily Actions: Your November Momentum Builder

How small daily habits shape lasting impact, plus highlights from Johnson City and beyond.

Hey friend,

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s this:

Big leadership isn’t built in big moments.

It’s built in the quiet ones.
The small, consistent, often invisible acts of discipline that no one celebrates but that change everything.

This month, I’m reflecting on the quiet power of small disciplines; the ones that don’t make headlines, but define our influence.

Below you’ll find new leadership insights, podcast episodes, and event highlights (including a meaningful stop in Johnson City).

Let’s make November count, not by adding more, but by leaning deeper into what matters most.

Let’s jump in!

🧭 Leadership Insight of the Month

The Power of Daily Disciplines

When we think about great leadership, it’s easy to focus on big moments, major wins, bold decisions, high-profile successes. But what truly defines great leaders is often far more mundane: the small, consistent choices they make every day.

It’s the early mornings, the quiet reflection, the difficult “no,” and the unwavering commitment to show up, even when no one is watching.

As Coach Nick Saban once said:

“There are two pains in life. There is the pain of discipline and the pain of disappointment. If you can handle the pain of discipline, then you'll never have to deal with the pain of disappointment.”

In a world full of distractions and noise, the most impactful leaders aren’t always the loudest or the most visible, they’re the ones who commit to small, purposeful actions every single day.

Here are four foundational disciplines I return to again and again:

  1. Concentration: Be fully present and protect time for deep work. Schedule blocks in your day to focus on what truly moves the needle.

  2. Abstinence: Say no to the good so you can say yes to the best. Cut out the distractions and overcommitments that dilute your energy.

  3. Clearing Distractions: Ruthlessly remove clutter, whether digital, mental, or physical, that gets in the way of your priorities.

  4. Eyes on the Goal: Recenter yourself daily on the “why” behind your work. Begin and end the day with your purpose in mind.

Discipline isn’t glamorous, but it’s transformational.

As Jim Rohn put it:

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

In a culture chasing hacks and highlights, choose the daily work. That’s where lasting leadership is forged.

📚 Book Signing Highlight: Johnson City, TN

One of the highlights this fall was my November 1st book signing at Johnson’s Literary Depot in Johnson City, Tennessee.

What made it meaningful wasn’t just sharing Everybody Leads, it was connecting face-to-face with so many passionate, thoughtful leaders who are living out the message.

We talked influence. Purpose. Ownership.

And I left encouraged by how many people are eager to lead not from the top, but from wherever they stand.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and made it special.

📝 Top LinkedIn Post of the Month

This past September, I returned to where my leadership journey began, University of Montevallo, to speak with students in the MADE Program.

I expected to teach. Instead, I left inspired.

These emerging leaders asked thoughtful questions and showed genuine hunger to lead well. It reminded me that leadership isn't reserved for corner offices. It's available to anyone willing to step up and own their impact.

👣 Lead with Discipline This Month

November’s not just the pre-holiday rush.

It’s the perfect time to recommit to the habits and mindset that shape true leadership.

So here’s your challenge:

Choose discipline over ease.
Focus over frenzy.
Purpose over pressure.

Let’s make this month matter; one decision at a time.

Grateful to be on the journey with you,

Tim
